Around the World

Apparently Sydney's gravitational pull is too strong. Once again I find myself Down Under. Will I escape once more? Or will I remain quarantined in Terra Australis forever? I suppose I can call it home again... for now... (See my travel archives by clicking on the links listed on the left under "Archives").

Kate and Egg's Day of Fun (DOF)

Kate and Egg's DOF took place on the 10th of April. With another scheduled for this weekend I figured it was about time I posted some photos.
The first DOF consisted of catching the tube to Old Street and walking across to Brick Lane through the litter strewn streets of Shoreditch. We went to the Red Bull Art of Can exhibition that consisted of art works made from empty Red Bull cans. Then, we stumbled across the Lane to see a screening of amateur short films. Next, we walked further down Brick Lane to grab a curry. We were followed briefly by a crazy Indian asking if "you like shag??". Erin looked at him with disdain and said "Piss Off!" but still he persisted, until I turned and said the more forceful, "F*&K OFF!!!". He didn't follow us after that. Finally, we walked past some old buildings to get back to Bank station.
A good day was had by all.

My work here is done...

Back on the ole supply teaching treadmill. It's actually not been as bad as I remember it, surprisingly. Life is never boring when you're at the front of a classroom.
I would like to give big shout out to Adam in Year 9 at the school I'm currently teaching at. Today he told me in no uncertain terms:
"Those who can, do and those who can't, teach."
Loyal readers, you needn't worry this wasn't directed at me at all! Phew. When Adam asked me "Miss, why would you become a teacher?", instead of the usual it's a noble profession style answer I was frank with the kid, "For the holidays." To which he replied "I have sooo much respect for you now." What can I say? The youth of today, they're easily pleased.

MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

Make Poverty History: UNICEF UK is joining the biggest coalition of charities and development agencies ever formed in British history.

Here's some facts for you -
30,000 people die needlessly every day, more than 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day and more than 100 million children are unable to go to school.

In July, Tony Blair (aka Tones) will host the annual G8 gathering. The UK can be an influential player on the world stage, encouraging world leaders to release money for international aid. To help put the pressure on, UNICEF are asking their supporters to send postcards to Tony Blair.
Why not take a few seconds out of your day to send one of these e-postcards to Tones. Just click on the link below and think about all the good karma...

What a difference a coupla weeks can make

You get the arse from your job,
You spend a fantastic long weekend in Brighton with your good mates Sara and Maggie and
The Pope dies.

Birthday drinks @ The Balham Tup

On the 12th of March a group of twenty-somethings got together to celebrate yet another year passing them by. What's happened to me in the last 12 months - A few more "laughter lines", a lot less acne and hair that's verging on long, oh and I moved halfway round the world, pretty standard stuff really!
